As you can see, we had a busy start to the new year.  You would think maybe we would slow down right? Are you kidding? We don’t stop! We LOVE what we do and it excites us to serve the community! SOOOOOO…… this is what’s going on in February!

Valentine’s Day Party at Brighton Gardens-LOT318 is partnering with Richfield Community Church for our annual Valentine’s celebration! We are gathering together to make Valentines Day cards for the residents at Brighton Gardens retirement home, then delivering them to our friends and having a festive celebration!

High School Winter Camp- Some of our high school students will be attending winter camp, sponsored by Friends Church in Yorba Linda.  They will head up to Forest Home Camp Feb. 12 and return Feb. 15.  Please pray for safe travels and a time of spiritual growth and renewal for our students.

Homework Club- We’re still plugging away with our after-school Homework Club! We are in a new semester and have made some positive changes that will hopefully encourage our students to keep excelling in their academics. Please pray for an abundance of tutors and perseverance for our attending students.

Tuesday Night Bible Studies- The start of the new year has brought along some changes in our programs.  One of the major changes effects our adult bible study on Tuesday nights.  Letty and Savana are taking a more active role in this study as we are start a new series on fellowship.  We will be sharing our testimonies every week and having a time of fellowship and celebration one Tuesday per month.  Our student bible studies are going strong and lives are being changed everyday.  Pray that we can effectively execute the visions God has given us for these studies, and that lives will continue to be changed in the name of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your continual encouragement and prayers for LOT318.  We would be nothing without our prayer warriors and partners.  Please continue to pray for our finances as we continue to fundraise, as well as clear vision as we continue on this exciting journey!

 

January Fun! Tuesday, Feb 2 2010

We sure have had a great start to the new year!  January was full of fun, rewarding events that set a great tone for the coming year. Let us fill you in on our month!

Serve Day: On January 30th, Friends churches all over California gathered in their communities to serve and help local organizations.  Friends Church in Yorba Linda chose LOT318 as one of their organizations to support.  We had a culmination of about 50 volunteers and community members join together to start some landscaping on the street and build a soccer field for the kids. It was AMAZING.  So much was accomplished and everyone worked together as one big body of Christ. It was a beautiful sight.



Leadership Retreat- At the start of each year, we empower our graduating student leaders to choose an underclassmen to mentor, and teach them the ropes of leadership.  We kick of the year with a day-retreat to plan our events for the year. We have an awesome team and some incredible new leaders.  We got so much accomplished! We heard from Hill of Hope board member Matt Barnes, and planned our year. What a productive day!

Serve Day Banquet- The night before Serve Day, Friends pastors around Orange County gather for a banquet/kick off to serve day.  We had the privilege of serving the dinner with our high school students.  We  got to dress up and attend the banquet as well as serve our fellow pastors.  After the banquet, we ended the night with some fun high school shenanigans.  It was sooooo fun!

Homework Club- This has definitely been a rainy month, with additional tornado warnings! I thought this was sunny southern California! Because of this unexpected crazy weather, we had to cancel a few days of Homework Club. None the less, we got right back on track once the sun came out, and the students were ready to work! We are so proud of their progress and their dedication to excelling and succeeding in school.  We are grateful to be a part of their educational journey.

Bible Study- Our bible studies have turned into a community event! There is something for everyone, and all can get involved. One of the highlights, is our high school and junior high study.  Every other week, their study is lead by a break-dancing team called, Breaking Free.  The dance with the kids then lead them into a time of discipleship and learning.  It is such a treat for the students and really helps them engage in the study.

OUR ANNUAL FASHION SHOW FUNDRAISER IS COMING!!!!

Join us March 13 for LOT318’s annual Fashion Show fundraiser! The High School students at Friends church in Yorba Linda are putting on a community wide fashion show in support of our programs and ministry.  Come watch our students model the latest fashions, enjoy live music (Savana’s band!), art auction, silent auction and fun after-party, all to raise support for LOT318!

The new year has begun! Can you believe it is 2010?  2009 was an amazing year for LOT318, but we just know this year will be hard to beat.  The new year carries along a sense of renewal and fresh beginnings, which is just what we need! Thank you for your continued prayers and support, we would be nothing without you.  Here is what we’ve got going on for the month of January!

Homework Club: Today was our first day back at Homework Club! We had a ton of students today but only two outside tutors.  So PLEASE  pray about volunteering with us after school! We could really use the help:).

Tuesday Night Bible Study:  We have continued our bible studies throughout the holiday season.  We now have volunteers on a regular basis, and lives are truly being changed.  The whole community gathering together to study the Word and learn more about our great God is truly a sight to see.

High School Leadership Retreat: January 16, we will be gathering a group of high school student leaders from Friends Church, to plan their involvement with LOT318 for the rest of the year.  Not only do we plan our events, we do team bonding activities, special leadership training and have one of our board members as a guest speaker.

Serve Day: January 30 the Friends denomination hosts their annual serve day.  Cypress St. was chosen as a site for one of the service projects.  We will be partnering with the City of Placentia to landscape the street, build a shed for our supplies and prepare the ground for our soccer field! We will end the day of service with a community barbecue to celebrate our efforts.  Go to www.ylfc.org to sign up!

Once again, THANK YOU for your prayers.  We are incredibly blessed and sooo excited for our future endeavors.  God is opening up some crazy doors for us, and we will continue to walk through them.  Stay tuned because this year is going to be FANTASTIC!!!!
