Tuesday Nights are Breaking Free!

15 08 2010

Every Tuesday night, the community gathers together for a time of spiritual growth and development.  Every demographic represented in the community is being poured into by a different group of leaders.  If you ever want to see God moving in mighty ways, visit Cypress St. on a Tuesday night.  We have a faithful youth group from Messiah Lutheran Church who lead the Elementary school kids bible study group.  They have continued the studies through Christmas breaks, spring breaks and into the summer.  Working with young kids is, at times, an arduous task; but our leaders from Messiah always persevere.  Due to their summer schedule and our transition into the fall, they have decided to take the month of August off to recharge and plan the future of the Tuesday night studies.  When working so closely with people, it is important to take time to recharge and rejuvenate so you can effectively do what God is calling you to do.  We are SO GRATEFUL for our Tuesday volunteers and studies, and CANNOT WAIT to kick off in the fall!

Now let me tell you, CRAZY, AMAZING THINGS ARE STILL HAPPENING! So… our break dancers are still coming every other Tuesday night to dance and do bible study with our high schoolers; but now they have stepped it up! What started as a bi-weekly break dancing/bible study, has turned into a weekly discipleship/mentoring group for the high school boys. Our Program Director Marco is co-leading these weekly studies with one of his mentors, Vicente.  Vicente is one of the weekly break dancers who has really invested in the high schoolers.  He even helped us lead our beach camping trip this year! Through the relationships he has built and the time he has invested in the boys, he and Marco have seen the need to incorporate the game of soccer as a common ground between students. It is the vision of Marco and Vicente to continue building relationships through the dancing and soccer – both very popular  in the community.  Please pray with them and for them for: 1. Lives committed to Jesus 2. Discipleship to take place.3. Sponsorship of a LOT318 soccer team where they can be a light for Jesus on and off the field.  This is truly the start of a much needed relationship and team bond.  We can’t wait to see where it takes them!
